You can return clothes that don't fit or a chair that's uncomfortable so why oh why can't apartments come with a 30-day guarantee? Let's fantasize a bit.
In the competitive real estate game we're playing these days, it's considered lucky if you get more than one walk through before you have to sign on the dotted line (lest someone else snap up your score). You certainly don't get to analyze the quality of light at different hours of the day or take the shower for a water pressure trial run.
So what if you could? What if you could move into an apartment, try it out for a week or, heck, a month. If you discover that there's a loud neighbor you just can't get used to, a sloping floor you didn't notice the first time or 5am garbage pickup six days a week, you could just say, "thanks, but no thanks" and peace out.
I know there are all sorts of practical problems that you're dying to tell me about but guess what? Fantasies don't have room for those things.
So? Genius idea or are the landlords of the world about to lose it? What do you think?
