In response to the EPA's announcement last month that they planned to tighten drinking water standards, New York Magazine had a lab analyze water samples from 14 locations around the city. And the results are good: NYC water is very clean, with all samples surpassing EPA standards. And while it wasn't enough to have any effect, there were tiny amounts of other chemical compounds present as well…
The lab tests found infinitesimal amounts of the following in our drinking water.
4. Iron and Manganese
6. Calcium Carbonate
The overall assessment was that it's not necessary to have a water filter given how clean our NYC tap water is; however, "severe weather, the odd rusting pipe, and other conditions can contaminate the system."
If you have one already, are you still going to keep using your water filter?
