Drop What You’re Doing: This “It” Plant Is Available At Costco
Plant parents (current and would be), we have some great news. Costco appears to be selling one of our favorite plants—the fiddle leaf fig.
We’ve called a variety of plants the new fiddle leaf around here (Pothos, Monstera, Rubber trees) but we still love the OG It plant for its lush leaves and height.
AT Media staffer Kaitlin spotted these sizable fiddles at her local Costco in Auburn Hills, Michigan. As you can see, they’re about six feet tall, and can you make out the price?
Just $46.99! 14 inches is the pot diameter, and not the height of the plant, obviously. This price has caused quite the stir among the plant-loving Apartment Therapy team; Taryn in Atlanta has seen comparable trees for $100 to $200 at her local nurseries, and Kaitlin notes that fiddle leaf figs in 8 inch pots at Home Depot run about $37.
We have emailed Costco for more information, to see if these are in stores nationwide or it is a local deal, and we’ll update this post when we hear back.
The warehouse retailer does sell live plants online, but currently there are no fiddle leaf figs listed.
If you do partake in this deal—and are a fiddle leaf novice— know that fiddle leaf figs love bright, indirect sunlight, and only need to be watered when the top inch of soil is dry (which you can test with your finger). Also a tip from plant parent Kaitlin:
Make sure you give the leaves a good wipe down with water when you get it home so they can absorb sun better (mine are pretty dirty).
So, dear readers, if you happen to swing by your local Costco, tell us if fiddle leafs are in stock!
