What inspired you to use color? As an artist, everything inspires me, but primarily fairly mundane things like the shade of a wet sidewalk. I do get excited with how Anthropologie store fronts manage to reuse things we all have in new ways. It encourages me to consider what I own outside of their intended use. Nothing cost me over $100 (except the mac). The colors in my foyer were inspired by my vintage bicycle and tide boxes. I used white in the main room where I work on my art, because I need to see true colors. I used gray to accentuate the orange painting restricting it to one wall in order to emphasize the high ceilings. The blue in the closet is the same blue as in the foyer, but combining it with greens made it look cool & relaxing...

Color Tip: Don't decorate according to others' expectations. Your home is a launching pad, a place to grow. Before you pick colors, consider who you are and what you need. Don't bring it into your home if it doesn't have a positive affect on you. Consider what colors you will be able to see from each room. My main room is cool, so I made sure the only colors I could see from that room were also cool, even though those rooms are warm. It ended up drawing the eye out, and made the room visually continue past its actual space. Find the oddities in your home that make it unique, and highlight it with color. An odd shape becomes a beauty mark, not an eyesore. Reduce - Reuse - RETHINK Also, that's Schrödinger on my bed!

Fall Colors Introduction -------------------------------

Welcome, everyone, to our Fourth Annual Fall Colors Sharing & Contest. We're looking for the most beautiful & colorful home in the world and sharing all of the great ideas we get with our readers. This year we're amping things up and hoping to do things better than ever. There are two basic phases, the Sharing Phase and the Voting Phase...

1. Sharing Phase - you comment, judges decide

The 40 best, completed entries will be posted on a daily basis for three weeks. You can view them all at anytime via our new, improved contest pages under ALL ENTRIES. During this time your comments are VERY IMPORTANT as our six judges will be choosing 16 finalists from each region based on comments and their own colorful opinion.

2. Voting Phase - you vote till you drop

Starting October 20th, finalist voting will begin on a daily basis through our new bracketed voting system, which will pit our 16 finalists against one another until only one remains. Sound exciting? We hope so.

Best, Maxwell
