The kitchen pictured here is from the stars’ Manhattan home, a one-bedroom apartment in a historic building on the border of Little Italy and NoLIta. The couple was drawn to the space’s cozy, intimate atmosphere, so they worked with designer Don Stewart to create a space that would feel like a retreat from their busy lives (and from busy New York).

Rich, dark colors abound, especially in the kitchen, which is John’s favorite part of the apartment (and ours!). If you can take your eyes off of that gorgeous mosaic tile backsplash, you’ll notice how all the gold accents balance out the dark cabinetry, keeping the vibe glam and not gloomy.

The overall feel of the home is moody without being oppressive. Stewart plays with dark colors and interesting textures to create a cozy space while maintaining a clean, modern feel.

The couple’s sunny Los Angeles home may seem like a complete 180 — but if you look closely enough you’ll see the similarities. John and Chrissy describe the style of their home as “chic and tailored but also earthy and casual.”

The house is surrounded by outdoor spaces and flooded with light, but, as in John and Chrissy’s other home on the opposite coast, but the space is grounded with rich textures and deep, earthy colors.

The same designer, Don Stewart, is responsible for both spaces. The Los Angeles home, while being perfectly suited to its location, has the same warm, grounded feel and clean lines as its New York counterpart.
