This Charleston single residence is an art haven and colorful home belonging to Teeny and Trey (and Scooter, their French Bulldog!). Built way back in 1870, it definitely comes with its charms and challenges, but Teeny, a designer, has handled them beautifully.

Teeny and Trey have spent years collecting timeless pieces, purchasing local art, and renovating here and there. Of course, the architecture of this 1800s-era house plays a considerable role in the couple’s style; the french doors to the porch, for example, have stylishly stood the test of time. Travel and an appreciation of makers from other countries round out an art-filled, worldly home.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Worldly and eclectic mid-century modern

Inspiration: Timeless curations, seeing desirable designs around the world that are hundreds of years old. I love meeting the makers—from the Italian cashmere mills, to the rug masters of Morocco, to artists in my own hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. Every piece big or small has a story more important than a label.

Favorite Element: The original French doors from 1870

Biggest Challenge: Storage—if you get something new, you have to donate something old.

What Friends Say: That I like to collect special things through my travels and revamp vintage treasures. My travels influence my design, helping curate a collection of sentimental pieces.

Biggest Embarrassment: We are still missing a doorknob to the linen closet… after 4 1/2 years.

Proudest DIY: Designing the blueprints for the kitchen and bathroom renovation

Biggest Indulgence: The ostrich feather lamp

Best Advice: It is better to invest time or money in lasting pieces versus feeling the need to fill your entire space all at once.

Dream Sources: I call myself lucky to be the Brand Ambassador for Loro Piana Interiors, a luxe Italian textile company. I passionately have fallen in love with the story and quality behind the product, and am excited to slowly add Loro Piana Interiors to my collection.
