My name is Pamela Thistle and I live in this home with my husband Kevin and two black Labs—Harley and Fionnegan. Our home is roughly 2,100 square feet. Slowly, we have been adding our stamp on our otherwise plain new-build home. We have done all the work ourselves and yet we are still talking to each other!
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is the great room because it is light and airy. Even though there are a lot of windows in here, there is still wall space to hang my photography. The great room also has a 12-foot-high ceiling which enabled me to hang a large, statement piece light fixture (I am a sucker for lighting!)
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Eclectic, traditional with a twist and throw in some rustic elements.
If you could magically change something about your home, what would it be? Mmmm, this could be a trick question. When we chose this layout for our new home I was able to convince the builder to make a few tweaks to the floor plan (yay!) therefore I don’t need to change anything now.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? I found the ceiling medallion in the master bedroom out on the curb for garbage collection. I was over the moon as I love me some nice details. All it needed was a light sanding and then a quick coat of glossy, black spray paint, and viola!
Which fictional character would be most at home in your place? Goofy (yes, the Disney character) because he is clumsy and is able to laugh at himself. I say this because I am notoriously clumsy and if I can feel comfortable and safe in my home so can he.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Don’t follow every design “rule.” If you truly love a piece and you worry it will clash with your decor, use it anyway. A space should be filled with things you enjoy, not what the current trend might be. So in a nutshell, express yourself when decorating.
Thanks, Pamela Thistle!
