Eco-Inspired Design by Tammy Roy
The moment we stumbled upon the work of metal artist Tammy Roy, we fell in love with both her unique pieces and her eco-friendly design philosophy. Roy, who describes herself as “completely obsessed with reuse,” takes scrap metal from salvage yards and dumpsters and transforms it into a selection of home accessories and occasional custom pieces.
Roy named her business One Eighty to capture the flavor of her transformations — the steel does a 180 as it goes from salvage yard junk to art. Wisconsin-based Roy collects waste and scrap from various steel manufacturers, and spends hours rummaging through local scrap yards searching for additional materials.
We love all of Roy’s work, but are especially drawn to the functional pieces like the mail-holder, the wall hooks, and the fireside basket. We also love the custom pieces highlighted on Roy’s blog. As we get ready for the season of holiday parties, we may just have to order some of the eco-ornaments to use as one-of-a-kind hostess gifts.
