Stand Down, Standing Desks: You Have Met Your Match

Walk into any modern office today and you’re bound to spot at least one standing desk somewhere — they are all the rage in home and corporate offices alike. Somewhere along the way The Edge Desk got thrown into the mix, though it is surely in a league of its own when it comes to unconventional desks: it’s the world’s first all-in-one desk, easel, and chair, completely designed for a kneeling posture. It’s a brand new way to work that is sure to make a difference in your comfort AND your productivity, and I was so excited to unbox one and test it out for this week’s Fantastic Find. The Edge Desk began as a Kickstarter campaign back in 2016, after its original design by Marc Rosenburg and his product development team (who also brought us the legendary 90’s toy the Furby). The concept came about when the inventors had realized that while our way of working has changed to fit the digital age, we are still working at the same old cluttered and bulky desks. The team designed The Edge Desk to transform our modern workplaces (all while finding a way to include the growing number of those who work in alternative spaces)!

The kneeling aspect of the desk helps the user to maintain excellent posture (unlike couches or regular chairs, which don’t stop you from slouching) — and anyone who has gotten “in the zone” while at work knows that a comfortable position makes all the difference in your productivity. The knee pads actually take this pressure off of your back, and with an increasing percentage of young people with lower back pain, we have all the more reason to re-examine the way we sit when we’re at work. The desk can be “deployed” in just 10 seconds, and it easily folds right back down to a storable, transportable size. Plus the perimeter has a groove specifically designed for snapping on accessories (think cup holder, phone charger, USB light, etc.), which means you can keep your surface clear to do whatever it is that you do.

Artists of all types, especially those on the go. Keep the desk horizontal in landscape orientation for when you’re using your laptop, or convert it to an angled easel in portrait orientation for your latest art project. The Edge is completely adjustable, from its angles to its height, so it can work for a huge range of body types. And (best of all, in my opinion) it comes fully assembled right out of the box, so you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to start using it.
