While converting a van into a tiny house can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months, the Egoe Nestbox can convert the back of your SUV into a camper in under five minutes.

Created by Czech firm Studio 519 for local company Egoe, the all-in-one modular camping kit makes outdoor recreation more convenient by turning trunk space into living space almost instantly. It is able to expand into a double bed and a fully-fitted kitchen that comes with a two-burner stove, counter space, a sink, a water system, a few drawers, a mini-fridge, and a camping shower attachment.

When not in use, these features can be neatly folded and tucked back to its original luggage-like form. And, if you’re not camping any time soon, you can take it out of your vehicle entirely to increase seating and storage capacity.

According to the Egoe Nestbox’s inventors, they came up with the idea for it after one of them bought an RV and found that it lacked versatility.

“Our main goal was to achieve a similar level of comfort to a motorhome within the confines of a van,” Richard Vodička of Studio 519 told Dezeen. “We happily gave up the convenience of a flush toilet, which you get in a camper, in favor of more freedom when travelling,”

He added: “By expanding the possibilities of a regular van, you facilitate a way of traveling that is far richer in experiences. It allows you to slow down your life and get closer to nature.”

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, more travelers are choosing the great outdoors over tourist hotspots. The kit presents a convenient way to pack one’s gear and hit the road.

The Egoe Nestbox comes in four models, able to fit in a variety of vehicle sizes. Prices start at $3,000. No announcement yet as to when it will debut, but you can check their website here for more details.
