Enticing Exteriors: A Yellow House Spins the Color Wheel for a Whole New Look
Michelle was less than enamored with the yellow exterior of her home. After lady luck stepped in to help her snag a house painting service at a charity auction, Michelle was meticulous about choosing the right color. The result is an attractive and eye catching (in a good way) exterior.
From Michelle: My house originally had neon lemon yellow siding and no matter how much work I put into landscaping or picking out great furniture, I was always fighting the siding color.
I won the house painting at an auction and then the process was pretty typical for an exterior painting project. I spent weeks swatching various dark teal house paint colors to find the perfect one. Not too blue and not too green, just call me the Goldilocks of paint colors! After I selected the color, it was up to Textbook Painting to fit me into their schedule, and mother nature’s schedule. After they wrapped up painting the siding and trim, I couldn’t leave my back deck as-is, so I refinished it over one weekend! Now I’m loving hanging out outside admiring my new paint!
The neighbors LOVE the color. I truly think this is the color the house was always meant to be. I admire the color every time I come home, and I’m loving landscaping around the fresh dark teal backdrop.
Michelle’s words of advice: I’d be sure to ask a lot of questions up front before hiring house painters, my surprises were mostly due to not asking enough questions about the process. Also, be patient, covering up a neon yellow house takes several layers!
Budget: Low. I bought a house painting package at a charity auction for about $2,000. This would have cost between $5,000-$8,000 otherwise
Time Frame: ASAP! This project took about a month for the painters to finish.
