#EntrywayGoals: When Storage Is Tight and There’s No Coat Closet In Sight
The closet by my front door is overflowing with jackets, raincoats, and accessories. It’s packed so tight, I can’t even reach into that closet to grab anything. Heaven forbid I should need to add anything else to the mix. I’ve got to find a solution to keep in-season outerwear at the ready, and a place to stash guest coats at a moment’s notice. If you’re struggling with a non-existent or overburdened coat closet, check out these five alternatives: some give you a little extra space, and some can become a de facto closet when you don’t already have one built in.
Here are a bunch of ways to add storage, from a little to a lot!
Need Just a Tad More Space For Stuff?: Bigger Than the Three of Us (also, lead image above) shows how simple it is to make a hallway rack out of brass knobs. It’s pretty easy, just big enough to squeeze onto a small wall, and the combination of materials is very super stylish. Also, it has a secret storage mail slot!
Want to Hang Even More Things?: This cute coat rack from Emily Henderson is made with inexpensive supplies and requires zero tool time. Grab some big dowels, rope, and your favorite shades of paint. If the reason you’re sans clothes closet is because you’re tight on space, this collapsable rack can be stored out of sight when you need even more square footage.
How About Different Types of Things?: You don’t need a match-y all-in-one system to be successful. Saltbush Avenue pairs a (very cool) DIY coat hook with a different bracketed shelf and a row of shoe racks below.
Perhaps You Own a Bunch of Shoes?: Coat closets store more than just jackets. Leroy Martin shares a project for keeping your shoes corralled and off the entryway floor. As a bonus, it’s also a surface for a few extra decorative details up top.
Maybe You Need a Whole System?: This built-in storage from Esmeralda’s fits seamlessly with the rest of the white home, and adds so much functionality. It packs in hanging storage, shelves for shoes or bags, and bins for random accessories.
