Escape Style: Using Beautiful Fabrics from Around the World at Home

I have a deep appreciation for the artistry that goes into making different textiles. Whether you buy them as souvenirs as a tourist or order from afar, textiles can bring worldly charm and vibrant pattern to many different surfaces and spots in your home.

Some textiles have had their moments (of years) of being on trend; however, given its cultural roots, something like Central Asian ikat (for example) predates Elle Decor by more than a century. In this way, textiles can be as timeless as they are trendy.

1. Ikat pillows and a Moroccan motif blanket add graphic interest and color to solid-color bedding, and the hues in the rugs in the background are perfectly saturated. I'd definitely move in here.
2. Woven Peruvian blankets make a bold statement as custom upholstery on this sectional.
3. Of course the owner of a textile company has beautiful pillows (and no shortage of other pretty things) in her home.
4. Kilim pillow covers can be scratchy, but they're one-of-a-kind shots of color, texture, and pattern. (I turn mine over to the no-fuss fabric backside when I want to actually lean on them.)
5. Displayed on the wall, this Moroccan wedding blanket is given a display spot befitting its artistry and good looks.

6.shibori bedspread provides interesting but unfussy balance to the pink in this bedroom.
7. Ikat fabric became wallpaper in this very, very lucky little girl's room.
8. Vibrant African wax print fabric acts a colorful counterpart to this streamlined, neutral kitchen.
9. When you can't pick one, use a bunch—that's the wisdom shown here with a fun mix of ikat, suzani, and kantha textiles.
10. Woven and sewn in Guatemala, these pillows combine modern styling and traditional techniques.
