Usually, cutting boards are plain and utilitarian, serving as backdrop for kitchen tasks or serving arrangements of fruits, meats, and cheeses. One artist’s works, however, elevate the charcuterie board from being mere canvas to being the artwork itself.

Miami-based artist Ginny of Marigot Art studio does that by hand-painting beach scenery on ordinary wooden boards using acrylic paint and resin. For example, one of her pieces is a cheeseboard that looks like it has crashing waves, complete with foam and bubbles.

So when you’re sipping wine and snacking on cheese, you can feel like you’re at a coastal retreat, no matter where you live. You can practically hear the seagulls and smell the salty sea breeze.

Her work covers other items, including mirrors, lazy susans, and rustic wooden vessels with pools at the bottom.

According to Ginny, the inspiration for her work comes from the plants and seascapes she has seen in the Caribbean and Florida, both of which have served as her home for over 20 years. She hopes that, through her artwork, people will “be able to take a piece of nature’s unique beauty wherever their own adventures may lead them.”
