Etsy’s 2020 Home Decor Trends Include Bees, Sunsets, and a Vegan Alternative to Silk
Etsy knows what you like. Every time you search “custom pet portrait” or “Baby Yoda crochet,” it keeps track, and each spring it publishes a report of home decor trends. Here’s what Etsy observed about our design purchases and dreams this year.
Two materials have grown in popularity over the last six months. Searches for “resin” have gone up 62% in that time, and those for “burl wood” have gone up 14%.
Regarding resin, reports Etsy, “we’re seeing it show up everywhere from furniture to accent pieces to wall decor. Sellers are taking advantage of the versatile material and creating intricate pieces that double as artwork, like tabletops made from pairing live-edge wood with poured epoxy.”
What is burl wood? It’s wood featuring “burls,” which Etsy describes as “unusual formations of the wood grain.” They’re “unique to each tree, making every piece truly one-of-a-kind.”
As for fabric, Etsy shoppers are going for eco-conscious textiles like hemp and cactus silk, a vegan alternative to silk.
Who doesn’t love the beach? Over the past six months, Etsy has seen searches for sunset-themed art prints go up 99% — ‘70s-style designs in particular are doing well. Searches for seashell-shaped decor and pillows are also up 31% and 14%.
Other trends on the rise recently include bee motifs (think art prints, ceramics, and even furniture), suspended planters, and “ancient accents,” like Greek and Roman-inspired statues and busts.
