It may sound spooky, but the old surrealist game known as the Exquisite Corpse is a great creative exercise that's always a hit with kids and bound to yield amazing artwork.
The Exquisite Corpse started as a literary practice; participants would write on a sheet of paper which was then folded to partially conceal the text. The next writer would make their contribution based only on the visible fragment. The very same method is used for visual art, with the first artist drawing their section and leaving only a sliver of their image visible to the next artist, who does the same until the image is completed and revealed in its entirety.
The Exquisite Corpse is a guaranteed cure for boredom. Creating one by mail is a wonderful way for kids to stay connected to long-distance friends and family and beats a chain letter any day. Make a series of monster-themed Exquisite Corpses for the best Halloween decorations on the block.
