Favorite Fall Fabrics: Sexy, Durable Denim

Blue jeans — especially here in the birthplace of blue jeans — are forever, but no time of year do they feel more right than in autumn. What do you want to be wearing while navigating a corn maze, carving a pumpkin, flirting with a cutie at an apple orchard, or walking briskly to class? Jeans, of course. They're sturdy, comfortable, always look hot, and just get better with wear, so why not dress your home in denim, too?

  • This Fynn Quilt from Crate & Barrel is the one that got me on my denim kick. A friend asked me for help finding new bedding (this is like a one-on-one version of AT that I provide for friends & family!) and I was thrilled to find this manly-but-pretty (but pricey) quilt.
  • A screenprinted pillow from FlowerPress combines denim and doilies and comes up with something new and fresh. Impressive.
  • Of course, this ruffled denim pillow from Hettle is sold-out, but is a perfect not-overwhelming sewing project: a simple denim case, with a little flair.
  • The October 2005 issue of Martha Stewart Living featured Stylish Denim Crafts, including these frayed-edge pillows, a fringe rug, a tote, and more.
  • San Francisco has been having its most glorious weather of the year, so picnicking is a necessity. Your picnicking party will be able to spot you easily in the park if you're sprawled on ReadyMade's Denim Patchwork Picnic Blanket (there's a how-to!).
  • The Purl Bee's yo-yo quilt tutorial is so sweet, and I think it would be especially nice done all in shades of denim, rescued from worn-out jeans.
  • After a hard day workin' in your dungarees, come in and collapse on the Camille Tufted Settee from Restoration Hardware. Though with a $1690 price tag, you should probably change into a fresh pair of jeans first.
  • Enough classiness: this rag rug from Anthropologie evokes acid-washed jeans in all their glory.
  • But seriously- why does the furniture at Anthropologie have to be so expensive? Do any of you own any pieces? Are they worth the price? I really, really like this Marjorie Chair..
  • Finally, another rag rug, this one homemade by ButtermilkHill. The rug itself is very nice, but I especially wanted to show you this detail shot. There's so much there: so many threads, so many stitches, so much history, so many memories. Our jeans do so much for us, it's nice to see them honored in their retirement.
