Whether or not you're a fan of Brazilian design team Fernando and Humberto Campana, their projects are usually worth a look if only for the WOW factor. Best known for their chairs made of stuffed animals (Kanye West has one in his home), the Campanas just finished a hotel that opens this July in Athens. Appropriately named the New Hotel, it's an off-the-wall building with jagged room dividers, faceted furniture, and an extraordinary art collection.
Developed by Greek entrepreneur and art collector Dakis Joannou, the hotel is a statement piece. The unusual building is reconstructed from the dismantled parts of the former Olympic Palace Hotel, a 1958 modernist design. Doors, chairs, and windows were salvaged from the old property and resurrected by the Campanas in a mish-mash of forms. Challenging and unconventional, the interiors look like art installations.
