Hurry! Yes, you could totally make this next year or make it and take it on vacation, but let’s celebrate the last few weeks of summer and really dig our heels into the sand and make the most of the long days, hot weather and beach trips! Tei is here to walk you through making your own shibori beach towel in under two hours for just about $10.

What You Need

Materials

  • Queen sized flat sheet or larger
  • Blue-colored fabric dye
  • Pencil
  • Cotton string
  • Rubber bands
  • Glass bottle or PVC pipe
  • Two buckets
  • Salt
  • Rubber gloves

Instructions

Measure, mark, and cut a 60″-diameter circle from the flat sheet. Fold the circle into 1/4 of its original size. Take the glass bottle or PVC pipe and lay out on top of the folded corner. Loosely roll the flat sheet around the bottle or pipe and secure with rubber bands and string. Scrunch down to create striped wrinkles until the entire flat sheet has been secured around the bottle or pipe. Dye the product according to fabric dye instructions. Remove the string and rubber bands then hang to dry.
