When you think of wallpaper, you may think of the loud patterns of the ‘70s and ‘80s in your grandmother’s house. But wallpaper is back, and the trend has gotten some seriously stylish updates. In recent months, we’ve seen magnetic wallpaper, hand-painted wallpaper, and removable wallpaper take the design world by storm. If you’re considering trying the trend, you should also know that scratch-and-sniff wallpaper exists.

Flavor Paper, which was originally founded in Oregon and is now based in Brooklyn, is behind the delicious idea. The company still uses the founder’s traditional method of screen printing its wallpaper by hand. But while Flavor Paper’s methods are traditional, its designs are anything but.

“When I started, all of the paper companies were very traditional, with uptight-sounding names,” creative director Jon Sherman told Delish in 2018. “I didn’t want to be anything like them.”

The scratch-and-sniff line has three patterns: cherry, banana, and citrus. As Sherman told Delish, the idea came from one of Flavor Paper’s clients. They were looking through their high school notebooks for design inspiration, found some old scratch-and-sniff stickers, and wondered if the same mechanics could be applied to wallpaper. After a bit of research, Flavor Paper found a way to make it happen. Now, you can decorate your walls with scratch-and-sniff cherries.

If you visited the Museum of Ice Cream pop-up, you may recognize this scratch-and-sniff banana wallpaper, which Flavor Paper created as a pop art homage to screen printing.

If you want to go the citrus route, you have a few scent options to choose from, including orange, blood orange, and lemon lime.

The scratch-and-sniff wallpaper can also be made to order, so you can change the colors and scents to match your personal preferences. If you want purple bananas on a pink background that smell like chocolate, Flavor Paper can make that happen. The only question that remains is: Which pattern will you choose?
