Chances are you’ve seen a few fluted pieces of furniture here and there, but get ready, because this look is about to become even more popular in 2020—and the good news is that you can start shopping stylish pieces right now!

“As our everyday lives get busier, our homes are starting to lean more towards simpler, more streamlined styles,” says Havenly Senior Designer Stacy Harwood. “Minimalism is starting to work its way into every current design style from modern farmhouse to Scandinavian, but we still crave that warm, inviting feeling, and so we’re seeing an influx of clients wanting more and more texture.” As a result, according to Harwood, fluted architecture is becoming increasingly popular in higher-end and commercial spaces. Think classic columns and fluted moldings—sometimes fluting is also referred to as scalloped or ribbing as well. But if you can’t renovate, no worries! Plenty of furnishings are starting to sport fluted bases, legs, and detail work, so it’s easy to bring this elevated trend into the average home.

So how do you best decorate around your gorgeous fluted piece? Harwood suggests incorporating “smooth, natural tones, like white oak and marble, on your fluted pieces for a polished feel and add in soft, supple texture like mohair.” And as Chelsea Graham, also a senior designer at Havenly, notes, “You can easily pair this style with organically shaped decor pieces, such as a slightly curved vase with greenery or even fresh flowers.” Ready to take a look at our favorite fluted finds? These seven items will help you get this luxe look in your space.
