Perhaps you don't recongize the names Tobias Frere-Jones or Jonathan Hoefler but you've certainly read their work — every lower-case, upper-case and symbol of their designs. They're co-owners of Hoefler & Frere-Jones, the company which has produced some of the most successful and famous typeface designs ever.

"Font Men," a short film by production company Dress Code, details their creative process. It recently was chosen as an Official Selection at SXSW, and now you can see it too. It's a fascinating and stylish look into a design world that few of us think about but that impacts every email or document we send.

Sad news: since the film was shot, the two co-owners have become involved in a lawsuit over control of the multi-milliion dollar company. In fact, they even acknowledge that, at times, their relationship was more of a competition than a collaboration.

Nonetheless, the film is a must-watch for any type lover. In a quick six minutes, it delves into the many-layered decisions that factor into the process— both creative and logical — of making the fonts we use every day.
