In our last three residences my husband and I have been blessed with high ceilings. They're wonderful things if you own the space, but if you rent, the logistics of spending a great deal of money on relocating wiring and installation can be a pain. So we thought this was a super cool design idea when we ran across it this morning.
In our current home, even when we can install permanent lighting we're still facing the same problem — what if we want to move the table or the sofa when Christmas rolls around? What if we have a big party and need more space or want to change things up? Then the lighting will be in a weird spot…hanging there…all by itself…sad and lonely, dangling in the breeze!
This table — although slightly more rustic than many a dining room table — is a great solution and DIY project for those in loft spaces or faced with lighting challenges. Even though you might bump an occasional elbow at the end of the table, as long as you're not packed in like sardines, we think it's a brilliant solution to an increasingly common problem.
Maybe we move our furniture around more than most (we like to keep things fresh), but this would be a great idea in a workshop or even for an outdoor picnic table where you didn't have anywhere to run lights from. Do you like the idea? Tell us why or why not in the comments below and don't forget to take a tour of this space, the LZF studios over at Design Boom!
