Over the weekend we stopped in on a friend and saw their front door nicely framed with a pair of oversized concrete planters and giant bird of paradise. What had been a sort of empty front deck suddenly feels filled in and tropical.

We thought it was a really nice improvement and really helped frame the entrance to the house. Plus the green of the giant bird of paradise (not to be confused with a banana plant) looks great with the blue door and the lighter green house. According to feng shui, you should never have a spiky plant near the door, so if you want to frame your door, make sure to use plants with rounded leaves (no cactus! or spiky grass!).
