This Spiraling Frank Lloyd Wright House Is For Sale
The David and Gladys Wright House is the latest property designed by Frank Llyoyd Wright to hit the real estate market. Located in Phoenix, Arizona, this 5,072-square-foot property is currently listed at $12.95 million, notably due to its beautiful architecture and historic value.
Wright originally built the home for his son, David, and his wife, Gladys, according to Curbed. It served as a family home for generations, exemplifying Wright’s late-career rounded style that is seen through its spiral walk up—one of its many unique elements.
The inside of the 2,300-square-foot main home is equally as creative, complete with three bedrooms and four baths, according to listing broker Bob Hassett. Hand-cut Philippine mahogany can be spotted throughout the rooms, complimented by custom-designed furnishings.
There is also a 360-square-foot guest house that recently went through a restoration process, which showcases the architect’s skills with small spaces. Wright’s signature “March Balloons” carpet can be spotted in the living room, and the large window screens help the small home blend with the surrounding landscape.
While this property is a beautiful artifact, there is a need to preserve it, and the hope is the next owner will be able to commit to that. “The great buildings impact every sense and create an emotional reaction,” previous owner Zach Rawling told Curbed in 2015. “After two years of being on the property, I appreciate living in the desert more than I ever have growing up.”
