Returning Stolen Items Could Score You a Free Hotel Stay

It might sound shady, but it’s legit: We’ve stumbled upon a way to profit off the misdeeds of others, and it’s actually a heck of a deal. According to TravelPulse, a historic New Orleans hotel is giving away a free week-long hotel package valued at $15,000. The catch? You have to return a stolen item that was taken from the property.

No word on whether naming names is a part of the requirements, but if a free stay at a luxury hotel sounds like your kind of reward, then you might want to start digging through those boxes in the attic.

The Roosevelt Hotel‘s General Manager Tod Chambers breaks down the rules:

“The person that offers up the most outrageous stolen item from our hotel—between now and July 1, 2019—will receive seven free nights in our Presidential Suite, along with free private dinners cooked by the executive chef, and spa experiences,” Chambers explained.

“We will accept any item from any time period in the building’s hotel history for our Historic Giveback Contest. We want to celebrate her entire past. And, we plan to display the items people send to us in window cases in the lobby,” he added. “We will return items to their owners after a big ceremony in July if they wish.”

So, basically you return a stolen item and even have the right to ask for it back, and the payoff is being wined, dined and fussed over for an entire week, free of charge. Sounds too good to be true, but apparently this is how the Waldorf Astoria hotel plans to commemorate its 125th anniversary, and so far, they’ve received several stolen submissions, including room keys, dining room plates, and a tablecloth. They expect the number of returned items to increase as the contest deadline gets closer.
