Why is it that everything is infinitely cuter in miniature? If Polly Pocket was a friend of yours as a child, then you’re going to love this grown-up calendar full of an infinite amount of love for miniatures—and an equal amount of imagination.

Since 2011, Japanese artist Tanaka Tatsuya has been crafting lovely and Lilliputian scenes from everyday objects that force us to use the force and to shift our perspective in the most literally delightful of ways. And Tatsuya compiles them annually into a free daily calendar, now available through his website and social media.

Showcasing his work in exhibitions around Japan and through his Instagram account (which currently has over one million followers), Tatsuya creates miniature scenes daily — primarily “diorama-style figures surrounded by daily necessities” — then photographs them and shares them online.

Everyone must have had thoughts like these before: Broccoli and parsley may sometimes look like a forest of trees, and tree leaves floating on the surface of water may sometimes look like little boats. Everyday occurrences seen from a miniature perspective can bring us lots of fun thoughts.

No doubt, there’s something joyous and whimsical about the sight of tiny tobogganers sledding down a slice of white bread, with Santa and his sleigh waiting their turn in the wings — or a single-file line of spec-sized skiers riding a row of disposable plastic razors like a chair lift. And that’s just the winter scenes from 2017 — Tatsuya makes the archives of his Miniature Calendar freely available for all seven years of the project.

“It would be great if you could use it to add a little enjoyment to your everyday life,” as Tatsuya invites his website visitors to do.

Miniature Calendar is also available on Facebook and Twitter, as well as Instagram. If you need us, we’ll be getting cozy by this Spa-ffle.
