Learn to Knit, Crochet, and More With These Free Online Craft Classes
There are many reasons to get into crafting: it’s fun, it can make you feel calmer and more focused, it can result in objects that are both beautiful and practical, and in times like these, it can give your brain something to do besides spiral with worry, at least for a little while.
If you want to pick up a new craft, or hone your skills within a particular craft you already practice, a couple of websites are offering their online classes for free right now: Bluprint and Brit + Co.
Brit + Co’s online classes are free just through March 31, but its classes are short, so you still have time to take advantage of the offer. Learn how to knit in 49 minutes or crochet in 36 minutes. Other craft classes include embroidery, weaving, quilting, latch-hook, hand-lettering, and illustration. The site also offers short, focused business classes on topics like boosting productivity and nailing job interviews.
Bluprint (formerly known as Craftsy) is focused entirely on crafts, ranging from fiber arts to cake decorating to woodworking. Its classes are longer, made up of multiple sessions, and typically cost $40 or more, making this current promotion a particularly good deal. Bluprint’s classes are all free right now through April 9.
Like Brit + Co, Bluprint offers intro craft classes. For advanced crafters, though, it also offers classes on specific techniques, like double knitting and knitting two socks at the same time. Teachers include masters of their crafts, like Natalie Chanin, who teaches embroidery, and Jen Hewett, who teaches block printing.
