Fresh Color Combo: Orange & Gray

Fresh Color Combo: Orange & Gray

I've long been a fan of orange and gray. Separately, each has its own merits. Gray, the chameleon of the two, is by turns warm and aloof, depending on its hue, while orange has difficulty concealing its zest for living — even at its palest, orange packs a punch. Bring the two together, and you get tension, as in office co-workers, are-they-ever-going-to-kiss, fabulous tension (think Moonlighting, Pam and Jim, or most recently, Mindy and Danny of the Mindy project, and you get what I mean).

As with our favorite television characters' relationships, the tension created by this dynamic color duo can swing from subtle to bold, depending on mood. It's a matter of the balance between the two colors, as well as the hues chosen for each.

Looking for cool sophistication? Try a light taupe-y or lavender gray and a hint of rust. Want to create a more seductive mood? Go for a dark gray with a touch of mink or olive in it, and add a bit of deep pumpkin. Feel like something fresher? Try dove gray and tangerine. The combinations are endless! It's all a matter of determining the mood you want to create and striking the balance that works best for you.

How do you feel about this combustible color combo? Are you as smitten with it as I am?
