Yard Sale Tip: Be On the Lookout for DIY Supplies

Until recently, we drove by garage and estate sales looking for one-of-a-kind retro pieces, unique art, and the perfect chair for that empty corner. But now, we know of something else to look for, and you might be surprised what a deal you can get.

Next time you're out garage sale-ing on a Saturday morning, keep your eyes peeled for DIY supplies, like paint, painting supplies, tools, and the like—especially at estate sales, where "everything" must go. It's nice to get things like that for unbeatable prices, sure, but even better? You'll be rescuing from the landfill for sure. Paint, even if it's not the perfect color for your living room wall, can be used for smaller projects (furniture or art, for instance). Of course, any usable supplies can be added to your own collection and then shared with neighbors. We've even seen folks at garage sales purchase broken furniture for pennies, only to take it home and completely refurbish or repurpose it.

What's your most creative, eco-friendly garage sale find?
