Sadly, spring is going to feel a bit different this year. With most of us having to stay indoors for the next few weeks at least, enjoying the warm air, sunshine, and blossoming flowers will have to be done from afar. But luckily, there are ways to bring the spring season indoors—and Modern Sprout offers an indoor gardening system that is completely foolproof.

Modern Sprout, a Chicago-based company with a mission to “uncomplicate indoor gardening,” offers a series of Garden Jars, which are self-watering flower and herb kits that require absolutely no soil, repotting, or watering schedule. The secret to growing success is in the jar’s built-in “passive hydroponic system,” better known as “wicking,” which, as explained on Modern Sprout’s website, “brings water and nutrients up to the plant’s roots.”

Currently, Modern Sprout offers an array of organic herbs that come in a delightful rainbow of vintage-style mason Garden Jar containers. Take your pick of basil, oregano, cilantro, sage, mint, and/or parsley and prepare to have fresh herbs in about two months. The more you harvest, the bushier your jarred herb will grow.

And as long as your plants are getting enough sunlight and their water is replaced when necessary, they should continue to grow and produce for, well, ever!

Modern Sprout has a vast selection of other indoor grow kits outside of their Garden Jar range, as well. You can grow a palm or spruce tree in terracotta, herb mixes in glass tumblers, and daisies and poppies in waxed planters.

So although spring may look and feel different this year, you can maintain some sort of normalcy and positivity by bringing the outdoors in.
