Gathering Inspiration from Garden Tours

Parts of the States are still covered in a blanket of snow and the only blossoms you see may be the ones in your day dreams. Still, early spring is a perfect time to gather your garden ideas. Touring gardens, either public or private, is a great way to get inspired about your own backyard and the perfect chance to see another person's visions come to fruition.

In Australia a volunteer-based organization called Australia's Open Garden Scheme allows the opportunity for people to tour private gardens throughout all the Australian states (including Tasmania). This non-profit organization began in Victoria in 1987. "Our aim is to promote the knowledge and pleasure of gardens and gardening across Australia. We do this by opening Australia's most inspiring private gardens to the public." There are about 10,000 gardens on their list with about another 650 private gardens opening up each year. Gardens are chosen by a group of experts and submissions are accepted.

Perusing another person's garden is a great way to gather inspiration and get your creative juices flowing for your own backyard designs. Many cities across the United States have garden tours and if you have an organization like that in your town it's definitely worth checking out.
