Having initially bought this house as a weekend retreat, artist and graphic designer Georgie Wilson and her husband Chris, managing director of Fathom Creative, decided to move permanently down the coast from Melbourne two years later. Along with their two young children and Sookie the bull terrier, they had to undertake a renovation to make the 1960s-era coastal house work for them as a full-time home.

They reconfigured the layout of the upstairs space, opening up the kitchen, living, and dining area to be an airy, modern space. They also added on a home studio for both Georgie and Chris to work from. Absolutely filled with Georgie’s colorful artwork (along with the art of talented friends), it’s a stunning, creative home nestled among the among the trees on the Mornington Peninsula.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Eclectic, mid-century

Inspiration: Mid-century and boho vibes

Favorite Element: Ply timber—it adds this lovely golden warmth

Biggest Challenge: Two kids’ and hubby’s clutter in an open plan space!

What Friends Say: Our house is so interesting and colorful.

Biggest Embarrassment: Still don’t have a laundry [room]! The washing machine sits outside under an awning made out of old doors that Chris built for me (but it still works fine until the next reno!)

Proudest DIY: Painting the splashback [backsplash] wall in our kitchen a new color every couple of months! It transforms the space and gives me new energy.

Biggest Indulgence: Buying new rugs—was a game changer in the space!

Best Advice: Wait until you find what you want furniture-wise and in the meantime, distract with indoor plants. Greenery always makes everything look beautiful.
