DIY Idea: Colorful String Cord Covers

You try and try to keep cords under wraps. But sometimes – maybe thanks to a houseguest, party, outdoor screening setup or just an awful floorplan –you've got no other option but to let the wires lay where they may. You can at least give them a facelift from boring beige to something a little more colorful and decor-enhancing.

Casey of Vitamin Handmade transformed the cord of an industrial clip lamp with neon orange nylon twine (pictured above). Her new statement lamp cord adds a pop of color to her workspace. Nylon string is cheap and comes in a gazillion different colors, so you'll definitely find something to suit your style. Check out more of Casey's cord-enhancing project here.

Design*Sponge took on a bigger challenge, covering a trio of extension cords with plastic cord tubing and three different shades of bulky yarn before braiding them together. The result is a cord that does anything but fade into the background. The full how-to and more photos are available at Design*Sponge.

If you're a musician, you know visible cords are a neccessary part of your stage setup, so let your cords give a masterful performance.  If you'd rather not go the DIY route, snag an intrument cable wrapped in a "fuzzy sweater" of acrylic and wool yarns from Cordinated.
