I've discovered a curious thing about Goo Gone Spray Gel recently while trying to remove some adhesive residue on the kitchen floor: Argentinean ants avoid any area or surface sprayed with it. Citrus oil is the main ingredient, so this may explain the insects' aversion to the stuff.

Remember to use the stuff sparingly on surfaces though (it can haze plastics or remove paint); I just applied a small dab of Goo Gone at possible ant entry points and on our unpainted wooden pantry shelving. The ant scouting lines have all disappeared and the openings that were once entry points have been abandoned. And it sure smells better than any insecticide.
