Good Question: Sources for Upholstered Walls ?

Jay is thinking about a project: "I'd like to know who to turn to to make a battened wall like on the cover of the June Metropolitan Home.

This seems to be a common DIY project, but I'm very particular and this is one time I'm not sure I'll do a good enough of a job to make myself happy. I hope you can help. Thanks!"

We did a little research for Jay and found several (very different) resources for upholstered walls here in Chicago. The short list of decorators/upholsterers who take on this type of work and can work directly with the customer:

Designs by Maida, 2039 W. Wabansia, 773.292.9200

Urban Source, 1432 W. Chicago, 312.455.0505

Hehn Custom Upholstery, 2821 W. Howard, 773.274.7665

Romann Custom Upholstery, 4217 N. Milwaukee, 773.777.1745

Now, that aside, we have seen wall panels done as a clean-looking successful DIY.

This project is one that seems to rely more on patience and care than accomplished sewing skills...we found this great, very thorough step-by step how-to at Be Jane for a headboard but the instructions are very flexible and could easily work for a wall. Be sure to check the further info on tufting in the comments on that post as well.

Whichever route Jay takes, pro or diy, we hope he'll send some photos of the finished results.
