Good Questions: Which Bistro Set Do You Prefer?

Hello AT,

My boyfriend and I just moved in together and have a very small, currently empty balcony that needs some furniture. I was thinking of getting a small bistro set, something classic and inexpensive and foldable. I’m torn between two designs: the Ballard and the Strathwood set and I thought that the AT readers could help me decide.

The Ballard one is a simple, elegant, Parisian bistro-style set, similar to one that you posted from Smith & Hawkens a couple weeks ago. I’m thinking of getting the set in white, and not getting the covers for the chairs. The set is all steel and costs $178 for two chairs and the 24″ inch table.

The Strathwood set is also pretty classic, and comes only in mocha brown. It’s made of wicker-woven polyethylene, which makes me think it might give a nice imprint to our thighs or pinch our butts if we’re wearing shorts (nothing that can’t be fixed with a cushion, however). The whole set costs $150.

Thanks! Christine
