Good Questions: Can I Mix Wood Finishes?

Sep 5, 2006

After a prolific response from AT readers to her question about setting up a dining area in her entryway, Miradula writes in at the next stage in the game:

Hi AT,

I had written in earlier about the dining area being at the entry way (see the entry after the jump) and I think the drop-leaf would be great. This table looks great online and comes at good price too. I was thinking of a dark espresso coffee table and side tables. This table has a cherry finish. So I was wondering if it's okay to have different finishes?

"The kitchen counter is right next to the big closet that can be seen in the picture. The living room does not have any furniture right now, but I have ordered a white leather couch with 2 armless brown/mocha microfiber chairs. Other than that there is no furniture in the living + dining area.

Thanks a ton,

There are no hard and fast rules around these things. What do you all think?
