To Paint or To Stain...or Maybe To Say Goodbye

To Paint or To Stain...or Maybe To Say Goodbye

Q: I have a matching desk and armoire used in my childhood bedroom (larger photos below). Both are large, nice-quality pieces; however, the two-tone wood with frilly details are not my taste and just ugly. I usually prefer staining to painting when it comes to wood, but this isn't pretty wood so I am open to using paint for a funkier look, if that's possible.

Most of my wood/wood laminate furniture is espresso or black, and my decor can be summed up by this post only with teal and aqua accents replacing all that is red.

Any advice from the AT readers would be helpful. I have no vision for what these would look like stained or painted and am wondering if a For Sale posting on Craigslist might be less of a hassle.
