Good Questions: First Year Baby Gifts

Julie had a question for us: My nephew is approaching his first birthday, and we really want to get him something special. But I'm torn because I don't want to get anything too keepsakey or impractical. I'd really like to get him something I can see him play with and enjoy right away on his special day. Any ideas for something that is both special and something he'll like at age one?

Dear Julie,
Great question. What you're looking for is a tough combination, but not impossible!

Toys with the alphabet are always a safe bet- this is a good time for baby to start learning the letters and sounds. You won't go wrong with classic wooden blocks. Check out our Top Ten Blocks post.

Books are another great bet. Browse the children's book section for a classic story you love. We also like Starrytime's Blanket Full of Love . This book has received rave reviews from celebrities. You can personalize the child's name and appearance.

Anyone else?
