Good Questions: Good Upholsterer that Uses Customer's Own Materials?

Dear AT,

Hoping that your good selves or some other AT Chicago reader may know of a good upholsterer or alternatively someplace that would do a new sofa COM (Customers own Materials).

I have new fabric already for an old sofa in need of re-doing and have been getting some ridiculous four figure quotes from a couple of upholsterers, which doesn't make it worth it.

(Note: Include a pic of your problem and your question gets posted first. Email questions and pics with QUESTIONS in subject line to: chicago(at)apartmenttherapy(dot)com)

Or is there a source out there that does sofas COM so I can take my fabric to them and get it put onto a new sofa?

many thanks -

Dear Alex,

Just last week we found Lakeshore Upholstery at 3331 N. Broadway, Chicago, 60657. This small no-frills storefront was packed with fabric, but Dana (the main man) said that mainly he does work with customers' own materials.

All we needed was new foam ordered and cut to size for our sofa cushions, but Dana was really helpful (and really amusing) and had them to us in 3 days. Dana's been in business for 20 years, and his prices seemed right to us. Definitely worth getting a quote; he'll tell you on the spot.

Any other suggestions, readers??
