Good Questions: Can Velvet Ever Work in a Kitchen?

I bought this chair last week, after I saw it in a charity shop window. It is for a corner of my kitchen, in an alcove near a fireplace (the fire isn't in use) but I have underfloor heating, so it should be a cozy corner. I will have it recovered and strip the wood to a lighter colour. I am totally perplexed as to which fabric to have it recovered in. After looking at lots of samples I have reduced it to a shortlist of three (the final thumbnail) My absolute favourite is actually the velvet, but I have reservations about whether would work in a kitchen setting? What do you think? My second favourite is the two-tone fabric, but I wonder if it is too bland? I'm beginning to consider selling this chair on ebay as I am so fed up trying to decide what to do with it and it will turn out quite expensive. Do you think it actually works in this setting, or is it a little too bulky? Any help appreciated. Kind regards, Lynne
