This Weekend: Set a 30-Minute Timer For This Mindless But Must-Do Task
When your freezer is clean and organized, cooking gets easier: you can see what food you actually have, less food gets freezer burn, and you’re better equipped to face weekday meals. While it’s still cold out, take advantage of nature’s icebox and stick your frozen foods outside while you give your freezer one a good scrub down.
This Weekend’s Assignment: Clean and organize your freezer!
But wait! Before you get going, take a quick “before” shot so you can look back and remind yourself of how disorganized and overstuffed your freezer really was.
First, Clean It!: Do a quick blitz and get rid of any unwanted or unusable food. On the chopping block are any packages hit by ice crystals, mysterious or unlabeled food, and anything that was frozen so long ago you can’t even remember doing it. And trust me, that leftover soup you hated the first time around isn’t any tastier months later. Get rid of it.
→Reorganize What’s Left: A well packed freezer is a cook’s dream. When food is packaged and organized well, it lasts longer and won’t go to waste. You’ll know where everything is and won’t lose anything under a pile in the back.
