Here’s the New Host of ‘Great British Bake Off’
While people were sad to see Sandi Toksvig leave The Great British Bake Off, Channel 4 was able to find a great replacement to fill her large shoes. They announced March 11 that comedian Matt Lucas will join Noel Fielding to form another power duo as hosts of the show.
In case you did missed it, Toksvig had announced on social media that she’d be leaving the show as co-host after three amazing years with the team to work on other career endeavors and exciting projects (which are still TBD).
Yet, we think Lucas will bring a fun, new kind of energy as a comedian and actor, best known for his work on TV and radio with his long-time collaborator David Walliams. Lucas is pretty pumped himself and told Channel 4, “I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television. I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue and Paul and meet the brilliant bakers.”
Lucas says he’s been trying to buy the right garments for his time on the show, and he’s making some jokes about getting them — so we can’t wait for that humor to continue on the show itself. He said, “And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation. See you in the tent!”
He continued on Twitter, posting a throwback picture of himself as weight loss group leader Marjory in Little Britain. He is holding a tray of cakes and warm, sticky buns, and he wrote with the snap, “Mood.”
The whole team on the show is super excited. They tweeted about the news, and judge Prue Leith also shared, “So excited to be working with @RealMattLucas, the combination of him and @noelfielding11, will we stop laughing long enough to get any filming done??!!!”Judge Paul Hollywood is also on board, as he said, “I’m a genuine fan of Matt’s, he’s a fantastic addition to the team and I can’t wait to start working with him.”
So, it’s safe to say this was a good call for everyone! We cannot wait for them to begin filming so we can sit out and watch the eleventh season.
