Just last night, our landlords returned from a two-week trip through Spain. They garden in the small space behind our apartment. Right now about eight tomato plants, two eggplants, and two snap peas, along with some herbs, are growing in two raised beds. Before they left, they emailed to see if we could plant-sit. We were more than happy to...
From our landlords email:
Awesome! We really appreciate it! It's like leaving a child or pet behind, but there are very few garden-sitters out there!
So we spent two weeks pretending the plants were ours. We watered them according to the instructions given to us. We checked on the plants everyday. We marveled at their growth. It was, in fact, a fantastic experience. We're novice gardeners, and just that bit of exposure made us feel much more confident in our ability to one day have a garden of our own. Also, it was so nice to be around the plants.
We plan to offer our garden-sitting services to all of our friends who live nearby.
Have you ever been a garden-sitter? Did you enjoy it as much as we did?
