Describe your home’s decor style in 5 words: A warm and colorful interior love story.
What’s your favorite thing about your home? I absolutely love the beams in our bedroom. We accidentally found them in a barn not far from here and were told they came from the demolition of the old quarters in downtown Stockholm. When extending our home in 2016 we decided to use them in our bedroom. This way the city girl in me feels very much at home even though we’re now living in the suburbs. I also love all the quirky old details such as the floors, the fireplaces, and the lovely details from the last century.
What’s your least favorite thing about your home? Haha, maybe the exact same answer as to what I love about our home… the old details such as no straight angles, the non-practical planning, etc. It’s gorgeous but so hard to manage when restoring or rebuilding, you have to be very careful not to destroy the beautiful soul of the house.
How does your home’s decor reflect the region? We live in Stockholm but when we met, our hometown was Barcelona and before that we have both lived in various cities like, Paris, Bournemouth, and Milan.
I truly believe that those years have made us less afraid of colors than maybe the average Swede. However, when it comes to furniture I absolutely love to mix the classic Scandinavian style with decorations from all over the world.
What’s your best small space trick? Use every square foot, not only the floors but the walls and the ceilings. If the height allows it, build a loft. Maybe you could twist a bit with the plannings?
Hide the storage. My first apartment was only 247.5 square feet and I couldn’t fit a loft in so I built a space where I could hide the bed and put a dining area on top. Every night I just slid the bed out from underneath that dining table and slept like a baby even though it was very close to the floor.
What’s the most recent thing you’ve bought for your home? My dream carpet and a beautiful lady (vase) named Frida by Jonathan Adler; both my husband and I are totally in love with her.
What’s the one thing that makes your space feel like home? On a Mother’s Day many years ago I got a beautiful painting by Lisa Rinnevuo called Monikas vals. Wherever I hang it I feel like home. It reminds me of my youth and all of those late nights in various cities where life was happening 24/7.
