My old vacuum just bit the dust so it’s time to make a big decision about a new purchase. C’mon, let’s crowdsource this! Are you in love with your vacuum? I want to know about it.

Here’s my deal: I live in a 700 square foot, one-bedroom apartment in New York City. I have hardwood floors with area rugs in the living room (shag), the bedroom (low pile) and the hallway (Flor squares). I also have one very hairy beagle who, despite my best efforts, spends roughly 23 hours a day on my fabric sofa. I will store the vacuum in a closet which has space for an upright if I so choose. I’m willing to invest the cash in a quality model that will last a long time, but I can’t spend over $400 (and I’d rather spend less).

I did some preliminary research and my head is spinning! Bagged or bagless? Upright or canister? With a cord or cordless? And the prices! There’s a lot to consider.

So I want to hear from you. Give me some suggestions so I can narrow down my search and I’ll keep you updated on my progress.
