HGTV’s ’Extreme Makeover’ Reboot Will Be Hosted By Jesse Tyler Ferguson from ‘Modern Family’
You may have heard earlier this year that HGTV’s ”Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” reboot was underway for a 2020 premiere. In the original series, host Ty Pennington was the one who proclaimed “Move that bus!” as various homeowners wept with joy at the sight of their new abode. But there’s going to be a new voice saying those three words (or perhaps a new slogan all together)—and that person is Jesse Tyler Ferguson.
Known for his role as Mitchell Pritchett on the sitcom “Modern Family,” Ferguson is now stepping in as the new face of the iconic show that dates back to 2003. In case you need a refresher, “Extreme Makeover” is all about giving a family or community in need their dream home renovation—a reason Ferguson was excited about taking the job.
“I was so inspired by the original series and now I can’t wait to help families as the new host of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,’” said Ferguson, in a prepared statement, according to Variety. And HGTV is equally excited to bring Ferguson on as host and a “creative lens on the series,” mentioned Jane Latman, president of HGTV.
“We’ll make some variations to creative aspects of the show, but it will always deliver the great storytelling that made it one of the most iconic and successful properties in television,” continued Latman. “Jesse’s a funny guy, with a warm, caring nature who will help us find the humor and joy in every situation, so that will make this a unique viewing experience for everyone.”
The revival has been a long time coming, as Discovery told Variety back in January. But the series is far from alone when it comes to recent reboots—from TLC’s “Trading Spaces” to the “Sabrina” revival on Netflix—and many others most likely to come.
While we’re extremely excited for “Extreme Makeover” to come back featuring the charismatic Ferguson, we do have a whole year to go. So until then, you can find us binge-watching the OG series and anxiously awaiting the new.
