Is there anything more satisfying than waking up to a cup of fresh brewed coffee? The eye-opening aroma, followed by that first delicious sip? Though there are numerous ways to make coffee (have you tried coffee with an egg in it?), the options for making a good cup of coffee at home has advanced both technologically and also in the design department...

Scanomat TopBrewer
Built directly into any countertop surface for a seamless finish, the TopBrewer is a beautifully designed stainless steel tap serving a coffee beverage on demand. And it takes coffee brewing another two steps forward with iOS and Android smartphone or tablet compatibility. The TopBrewer offers users the ability to peruse and choose beverage options visually from a mobile device, then further customize each drink to their liking (e.g. more milk, less milk, etc).

Peel UK Coffee Machine
Bringing the aesthetics of modern technology to the kitchen countertop, the Peel UK Coffee Machine's sleek black lines are bathed in soft blue LEDs that glow during brewing, with a stainless steel base sculpted with a rippled effect for one-cup servings. Unfortunately, it seems this striking design by HJC Design for Peel UK has yet to make the jump from concept to an available product at this time, but we can appreciate the design divergence.

Illy Francis Francis X7.1 iperEspresso Machine
Although this machine has been available for a few years, we can still appreciate the curves, color, and chrome of this vibrantly Italian-style automatic espresso and cappuccino maker, as pleasing as the beverages it puts out. Unlike the original iconic Francis Francis X1, the X7.1 simplifies preparing a cup by utilizing a capsule based system, specifically with Illy brand roasts. There's obviously a trade in taste for convenience when going capsule, but for button operation ease, the X7 should prove more than capable for the non overly-discriminating coffee drinker.

Illy Francis Francis Y1.1 iperEspresso Machine
Another offering from Illy, the Y1.1 is a small kitchen or home office friendly compact espresso maker that utilizes a proprietary single iperEspresso capsules for one-touch coffee; think of it as the consumer realization of the Peel concept up above. And unlike other instant capsule machines, the Y1.1 is constructed with aluminum and tempered glass on top, both higher quality upgrades from typical plastic bodied machines.

Kenwood kMix Coffee Maker
Why does it seem Europe gets to have all the fun when the US is stuck with drab kitchen appliances, including coffee makers? Available in a plethora of popping colors, the kMix is a bright splash of beautiful pop design that makes quite a statement in the kitchen, but is otherwise just an aluminum body designer upgrade to the traditional drip machine.

The Bonaverde
Just announced and right on the horizon of hi-tech coffee brewing is the Bonaverde, a coffee machine which not only grinds and brews coffee, but also roasts green coffee beans for home coffee connoisseurs. The Kickstarter project aims to cut out the middleman and offer coffee nerds a way to take control of brewing their own coffee delivered straight from the farm (instead of farm to table, think of it as farm to mug).
