This month, H&M launched a homewares collaboration with the iconic Belgian designer Diane von Furstenberg, best known for her iconic wrap dress. The DVF X H&M collection of home decor features the forever bold black-and-white prints von Furstenberg made famous — from her high-contrast leopard print to the Jackson Pollack-inspired black-and-white splatter paint design. Combined with a splash of coral and hot pink, this collection was made for “the woman [or man; or anyone!] in charge”

“The only rule for home decoration is for the decor to reflect who you are — and for you to be incredibly comfortable in it,” von Furstenberg told H&M in an April 8 interview. “My secret wish for the collection is that one of the pieces will hide in the intimacy of your life and your home. And when you look at it, it will wink at you — and you will think of me.”

And with such bold prints happening in this collection, it would be hard not to think of the designer.

“When I was growing up, I didn’t know what I wanted to do, but I knew what kind of woman I wanted to be. I wanted to be a woman in charge,” von Furstenberg continued. “And I became that woman in charge because of a dress. And because of that dress, other women became in charge. And so, little by little, when people say, ‘Who do you design for?’ I always say, ‘I design for the woman in charge.’”

Although von Furstenberg expanded her clothing to have bright-colored patterns, her best-known fashions are plastered with black-and-white, and she wanted to carry that tradition over to her H&M collection. The four-pack of espresso cups is a perfect array of her greatest hits.

And this small jewelry box is perfect for housing your favorite accessories.

Von Furstenburg also released scented candles in collaboration with the Robertet perfume house in glass tumblers, each one smelling of sweet citrus and caramel.

You’ll feel in charge of your own space when adding a von Furstenberg piece to your collection, as the designer has always intended.
